ORATORY School pupil Charlie Maculan produced an outstanding display to become Oxfordshire county champion in the Under 13 shot putt.

His impressive achievement continues the school’s strong record in throwing events, with Lower Sixth Matteo Matricardi reigning in the discus in recent times.

Coach Adrian Dulston said: “It is a shame Charlie (pictured below) could not have competed in the juniors for the discus for he surely would have followed in Matteo’s footsteps, but alas you cannot compete two year groups above.”

Other pupils competing at the Horspath athletics track in Oxford included Ollie Monye, who was the B string long jumper in the junior event.

He finished in the top three with some fine jumping achieving a PB of more than 5m – and it could have been more had his hand not cut the distance in the sand.

Masa Moriyama finished seventh in the junior 100m, but considering he was competing against rivals a year older than him, this was a great achievement.

Jack Mather achieved a PB in the javelin, finally hitting 40m, but Harry Davies pulled a hamstring in his endeavour to dominate both the 100m and 200m at the intermediate level (U17).

Dulston concluded: “Overall this was a successful outing to the Oxfordshire Athletics County Championships and we look forward to challenging again next year.”
