GREAT Hollands Bowls Club recorded a 72-71 win against Sunningdale in the Kennet League, taking 10 points to their opponents’ four.

The two sides won two rinks apiece, with those skipped by Dave Sutherby (21-12) and Ray Furnell (21-19) victorious. George Harris (13-21) and David Brown (17-19) led the beaten sides.

The highest scoring rink for Sunningdale was Tony Parsons, Reg Nutley, Brian Munden and skip Derek Cooper.

In the KLX league, Great Hollands A beat Maidenhead Town A 50-39 win, an 8-2 triumph on points. Two of the three rinks were won, with Brian Rammell skipping the best winning rink (23-12).

The one skipped by Furnell won 12-11 and Sutheby lost 15-16.

In the Thames Valley Ladies League the Linnets lost 51-48 at Caversham (8-2 on points). The only winning rink was Jose Chippendale’s (21-13), while Rita Littleford lost 14-20 and Jo Sanders 13-18.

The Wrens won their home match against University of Reading 9-1 on points. The rinks were skipped by Bridget Cruickshank (15-14), Carolyn Lofthouse (16-13) and Mary Thomas (16-16).

  • SUNNINGDALE Ladies won 57-47 at Windsor Great Park, with their most successful rink made up of Joyce Taylor, Pam Kiddell and skip Anna Allston.

In the KLX division Sunningdale A beat Twyford 65-62, scoring six points to the visitors’ four. Les Green, Ken Johnson and Dennis Bailey (skip) were the most successful rink. Sunningdale B lost all three rinks to allow Wraysbury to take all 10 points in their game.

In the County Triples the Sunningdale team of John Turner, Don Allsford and Brian Webb (skip) won their game against a team from Royal Household.

On Friday 27th May 27 there will be a Come and Try evening at the Whitmore Lane green. Anyone interested in trying their hand at bowls can attend between 6.30pm and 8.00pm.

  •  WOKINGHAM A produced a wonderful performance to beat Reading 75-73 in the Kennet League.

Both sides won on two rinks with Wokingham edging the points 10-4 with the overall match win. The highest up Wokingham rink was that of John Scowen who, along with Adrian Chipper, Paul Aylott and Martin O’Connor won their game 29-11.

In Division Two, Wokingham B defeated Caversham 83-77. Both teams shared the spoils winning on two rinks but Wokingham gained a 10-4 success on points. The most successful Wokingham rink was skipped by Bob Hales-Owen, who along with John Evans, John Buttigieg and Mike Drinkwater won 24-12.

Wokingham C were hammered 92-54 in Division Three (14-0 0on points).

In the KLX, Wokingham won on all three triples against Woodley A, winning the match by 59-37. The top triple for Wokingham was that of Tom Searle, David Smith and Colin Livingstone who won 22-10.

In the National Two Fours competition, Wokingham were defeated on both ricks as they lost 44-27 at Suttons.

However, Wokingham beat Reading 43-17 in the County Mixed Double Fours to advance to the next round.
