READING Royals Rugby League Club is on the lookout for players for the 2016 season.

Experienced players and curious first-timers alike are welcome to join Berkshire’s only open-age outfit as it embarks on its inaugural season.

Training sessions will begin this month and the club is hoping to launch at the Brighton 9s tournament on Saturday, June 25, before playing a series of friendlies ahead of entering a league in 2017.

The recruitment drive follows a successful first meeting of the club in which four committee positions were filled.

Founder Andrew Belt (pictured above) was named as chairman, Cllr Josh Williams as president, Michael Farrow as general manager, and Barry Watson as honorary secretary.

Belt said: “If you’ve played league, union or ever wanted to give league a go, we’d love to hear from you.

“I’ve been enthused by the responses I’ve received ever since publicising the setting up of the club and the first meeting has only enhanced my positivity about the venture.

“The committee put forward some great ideas for the club going forward and with a committed squad in tow, 2016 is shaping up to be a great year for the Reading Royals.”
