FOR the third weekend running there was a shortage of matches on the RDAA Club waters, writes Alan Hughes.

The only match on the river was at Wallingford A on the River Thames and Tilehurst Royal British Legion (TRBLAS) were the visitors.

There was strong current flowing after the recent rain and anglers that were pegged with some slack water on the inside had the best results.

Liam Page-Smith decided after one hour to target the small bleak that were in the upper layers of the water.

Fishing a short pole to hand, Page-Smith managed to net more than 150 of the species to win the match with 5lbs 11ozs.

Dave Cowley found some slightly bigger roach in his swim and took the runner-up spot with 4lbs 13ozs.

Terry Littlewood found the same species and completed the top three spots with 3lbs 9ozs.

Reading Fishing Club held their third of the four match pike series on their Osier Lake at Theale with Alan Clark taking the honours with 37lbs 8ozs which included a fine specimen of 23lbs 12ozs, while their match secretary, Keith Wilkins, came home in second place with two pike for 16lbs 8ozs.

Third place went to Brian Willis who landed one pike for 10lbs.

The RDAA Tuesday Club fished on Whitehouse Lake on the Stacey complex at Tadley.

Old stalwart Dave Bosher showed the younger members how to do it as he netted 37lbs 2ozs of carp and bream.

His catch included a carp of 14lbs 3ozs which caught on the pole, causing a few headaches as the elastic streamed out.

Tony Holdsworth claimed the runner-up spot with 14lbs 10ozs of the same species and John Berry completed the three top spots with 12lb 5ozs of bream and carp.

This Sunday will see the second from last RDAA match of the current season that will then decide trophy winners for the annual dinner and prizegiving at the Calcot Hotel in May.

The last match of the season will be the Teams of Four and both of these matches will be held at Froxfield Canal.
