BERKSHIRE Women’s Indoor Bowling Association held a celebration match to mark its 25th anniversary.

A team of Berkshire players took part in the exhibition held at Desborough Bowling Club in Maidenhead recently.

They were joined by a number of the association's founder members and past presidents, along with representatives from Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire, Sussex and Wiltshire.

In addition, Bowls England past presidents Jessie Clark and Edna Orchard lent their support on the day, along with playing members from four Berkshire clubs – Desborough, Rivermead, West Berks and Whiteknights.

The celebrations got underway with a the cutting of a 25th anniversary cake by president Doreeen Lovering, followed by a glass of champagne.

President John Bucknell of Desborough also congratulated BWIBA on a quarter century of success before the action got underway.

The format of the match, organised by Berkshire past president and a founder member of the association, gave all the players the chance to meet a variety of different opponents.

Each team of four played a game of seven ends, two sets of two-wood pairs of seven ends plus a final game against another team of four.

Top rink honours were awarded to the team from Wiltshire.

Whiteknights

WHITEKNIGHTS Ladies clinched an impressive 89-42 home win against Handy Cross in the second round of the national Yetton Trophy competition.

Whiteknights went into an early lead and dominated the game from start to finish.

By the 17th end, Handy Cross were trailing by 47 shots over the four rinks before deciding to concede the game.

Whiteknights were in excellent form again during a 102-45 win against Rivermead in the first round of the Egham Trophy, a mixed competition of four rinks and four men.

All four Whiteknights rinks were in good form andlele, on completion of the 19th end, Rivermead conceded the game.
