PINEWOOD Gymnastics Club tumblers put in a string of outstanding performances at the 2015 British Championships at Liverpool’s Echo arena recently.

Sebastian Williams finished in fourth place while fellow newcomer Beth Austin made an overall score of 53.1 in the 9-10 age group category.

Georgina Elliot finished with 55.6 and Alexander Cowen scored a brilliant 31.2 and taking home the silver medal.

In the 11-12 age group category, current World Champion, William Cowen, cruised into the final and executed a tumble consisting of a double straight somersault with a 360 twist.

That was enough to claim Pinewood’s first British Champion title of the day with a final score of 32.5.

Dominic Mensah, competing in the 15-16 men’s category, produced two exceptional routines in the preliminary round with superb execution scores. This put him through to the final in 2nd place.

Tom Evans, also a newcomer, competed in this round and he also executed two safe passes to put him into the final.

Two of Pinewoods 17-18 girls, Tilly Nash and Eleanor Head, had tough competition, especially with it being the second World Age group trials.

Nash performed two new runs in the preliminary round for a final score of 58.1.

Head produced two steady runs to move into the final where she then completed her pass, ending with a score of 30.9 for an impressive fourth place.

In the 17-18 category, Zachary Middleton executed some excellent passes in the first round en route to the final.

There, he performed an outstanding routine which included a double straight transition with a double twisting double straight to secure the silver medal.

It was an important event for Pinewood's senior tumblers as it doubled up as the 2015 World Championships trials.

It was Cameron Jones’ first British Championships for the club and he accomplished two nice routines on the Saturday to qualify for Sunday's final. He finished with a score of 66.9 leaving him in fifth position.

The senior women tumblers Lucie Colebeck (2014 British Champion and European team and individual Champion) and Yasmin Taite (2014 European Team Champion) had a lot to overcome with Colebeck out to retain her title and Taite returning from a serious injury.

They both reached the final, with Colebeck sitting in second place and Taite in third.

With a difficult final round Taite completed two exceptional routines for a score of 64.2.

Meanwhile, Colebeck held her nerve over two runs to retain her British title with a score of 66.7.

Colebeck and Taite have now been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Championships in Odense, Denmark in November.

William Cowen, Jack Williams, Dominic Mensah and Zachary Middleton also secured their places in the World Championships in their respective age groups.
