THE cricketers of the Reading Midweek League turned out in high numbers to celebrate another season of outstanding team and individual success at their annual awards presentation evening on Friday.

Royal Mail collected their Division One title following a titanic season-long struggle with Sulhamstead, who just failed in their attempt for top billing.

The Division Two crown was claimed by Kidmore End who were clear winners from Shinfield, while first season entrants, Hutchison 3, just pipped Mortimer to claim the Division Three honours by five points.

The Keith Mitchell knock out cup was won Kidmore End who were comfortable winners against West Reading in the final.

The evening again featured an enjoyable sports and general knowledge quiz, and Cintra regained their title of “Quiz Cup Champions” by narrowly beating Warfield and Masstor, who finished closely behind in second and third place respectively.

Individual awards were made to six batsmen who scored 100 runs and to five bowlers taking five wickets or more in an innings.

The stand-out batsman was Royal Mail’s Usman Asif who scored two centuries, 106 against Woodley and 100 not out against West Reading.

The top bowling performance came from Mortimer’s Jamie Stansfield, who took 5-24 against Cardkey which included the taking of four wickets in four balls, an exception feat.

The league’s player of the year was Sulhamstead’s Muhammed Hafeez, who received the most nominations from opposing teams he faced throughout the season.

Masstor all-rounder Sharath Vasu won the top sports raffle prize, a Kookaburra bat generously donated by the league’s sports equipment supplier, R & S Sports, Woodley.

Jeff Wayling, the league treasurer, said he was delighted with the high attendance at the dinner and concluded by offering an open invitation to players of all ages and abilities in the Reading area to join the RMCL for the 2016 season.
