TWO brothers were among three players sent off during Reading Town’s 2-1 defeat by Woodley United at Scours Lane on Saturday.

Town’s Courtney and Levi Lawrence both received their marching orders, along with United’s Seun Odusanya, while Town manager Tranell Richardson was also red carded.

Things came to a head late in the game following a challenge involving Odusanya and Levi Lawrence.

They started to fight each other and that led to other players running from all directions to get involved. Courtney Lawrence was red carded and in the aftermath, referee Chris Potter also sent off Richardson who had gone onto the pitch.

The incidents marred the first ever meeting between the two Scours Lane sides in Division One East of the Hellenic League.

But at least it was a good start for Jock Mowat in his first game as Woodley’s interim manager.

His side made the better start and it took them only seven minutes to find the net.

Nicky Maycock picked up the ball on the left, drove into the box before teeing up Bevan Van Wyk, who from just inside the box smashed the ball home off the underside of the bar.

Maycock continued to look dangerous but his game ended midway through the half when he limped off injured.

After a scrappy spell, Town equalised eight minutes before half-time when Luke Richardson fired home from 20 yards to raise their hopes of earning their first point of the season.

But Woodley regained the lead on 53 minutes.

Town failed to clear their lines and Prince Alozie hammered the ball through a crowded goalmouth into the right-hand corner of the net.

Alozie then squandered a good chance to score again.

With 12 minutes remaining, Odusanya replaced Rupen Limbu, but the substitute’s involvement in the game didn’t last long due to his red card.

Each side also had two players booked during the game.

Town, who have now lost every game this season, have no league fixture this Saturday, but next Tuesday (7.45pm) entertain Premier Division high-fliers Ascot United in the second round of the Floodlit Cup.

Woodley have a home league fixture with Chinnor at Scours Lane this Saturday.

l WOODLEY United Ladies slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Bracknell Town in their Southern Region Women’s Football League clash on Sunday.

Despite dominating for long periods of the game, United found themselves 2-0 behind thanks to Laura Wallman and Sam Tan goals, and Louise Thompson’s late effort was not enough to save them from defeat.
