FORMER Oratory School pupil Dan Housego has been appointed cricket professional at his alma mater.

The former Middlesex and Gloucestershire batsman has returned to the Woodcote school he attended between 2002 and 2007, when he was a sports scholar.

During his first class career, Housego averaged 31.93 with a top score of 217 not out. He also made a century against a touring Sri Lankan team in 2011, and has a highest one day score of 132 against South Africa in 2012.

The 26-year-old will be running nets for the school teams in the sports centre on a Thursday evening and will offer coaching support during games in the summer term.

Housego is delighted to be returning to his former school and said: “I had five great years at The Oratory and it is exciting to come back and try and help the youngsters improve.

“I have already seen some extremely talented players and I am looking forward to helping them develop as cricketers and people.”

The Level Three coach has attracted support from leading figures in the game, with England director of cricket, Andrew Strauss, saying: “Dan has an excellent grasp of the game and has the ideal temperament to become a first class cricket coach.”

He will also be offering private coaching, both to individuals and groups.
