READING FC Women moved a step closer to lifting the FA Women’s Super League 2 crown with a 4-0 win at Millwall Ladies on Sunday.

Striker Helen Ward – who was named players’ player of the year at the FAW Awards on Monday – scored a brilliant hat-trick and also set up Lauren Bruton for the other goal.

Table-topping Doncaster Rovers Belles kept their title bid alive with a 3-0 win against Oxford, meaning they remain three points clear of Reading. However, Royals have a game in hand and visit third-placed Everton on Sunday, where a victory would put them top on goal difference.

The final weekend of the season sees Reading visit Aston Villa and Doncaster play Millwall. If Reading match the Belles’ result, they are likely to be champions unless the northerners can catch up at least a six-goal deficit.

  • READING FC this week saw a £100,000 Football Association fine for a pitch invasion after last season's 3-0 FA Cup quarter final home win against Bradford City cut to £40,000 following an appeal.
