LUKE Scope scored a brilliant hat-trick as Wokingham & Emmbrook finally clicked into gear with a 6-1 destruction of Shrivenham in the FA Vase second qualifying round.

Saturday’s clash offered Dan Bateman and Matt Egglestone’s men a welcome break from the horrendous league form that September had brought the depleted Sumas, when they had failed to claim a point from six Hellenic League Premier Division games and were also dumped out of the Challenge Cup.

Wokingham’s squad was probably as strong as at anytime so far this season, with several players including Dan Collier, Darren Thorne and Jake Butler returning from injury and unavailability.

And they were given the perfect start when Scope netted with a beautiful lob after just four minutes, giving the home side an early and much-needed confidence boost.

Collier doubled the advantage shortly before half time, but Jamie Prictor gave Shrivenham hope by halving the deficit early in the second period.

Sumas reasserted their control when Scope grabbed his second on 52 minutes before Jordan Rowland, newly signed from neighbouring Bracknell Town, capped an excellent performance with a stunning 25-yard free-kick in the 69th minute.

Garry Sargeant displayed some great skill to force a mistake by the Shrivenham defence to make it 5-1, and Scope completed his hat-trick late on to give Wokingham their first home success of the campaign.

Sumas now face a trip to Hartley Wintney in the first round proper on October 31.

They visit Abingdon United this Saturday (3pm) then Chinnor in the Floodlit Cup next Tuesday (7.45pm).
