ADAM Morris fired home a late penalty to cap a stunning fightback by Thatcham Town on Monday. They defeated last season’s Hellenic League champions Flackwell Heath 3-2 after trailing by two goals with less than 10 minutes remaining, writes Dave Wright.

Substitute Ian Davies sparked Thatcham’s battling recovery by reducing the deficit after 81 minutes.

Yashwa Romeo, who also came off the bench, brought the scores level with 87 minutes gone and Morris snatched the winner in the opening minute of stoppage time.

The game started badly for the Kingfishers as they lost Mark Hughes with a head injury in the opening minute.

It got worse when a defensive error let in Mitchell Woodward to give Flackwell the lead after 19 minutes and the visitors doubled their advantage through Dan Rapley just before half time.

Just after the hour mark Town were forced to make a change when Marcus Mealing went off injured. He was replaced by Davies and shortly afterwards Josh Baines came off for Romeo.

Davies lobbed home from 25 yards and Romeo’s header brought the scores level before a foul on Davies earned the penalty that saw Morris grab a winner.

Thatcham’s Mark James was then sent off for his second yellow card offence.

James and Mealing (2) were on target as the Kingfishers defeated Guildford 3-2 in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Hungerford won 2-0 at Bedworth on Saturday with their goals coming early in each half from Rhys Tyler and Matt Daly. And they earned three more Southern League Premier Division points on Monday with a 1-0 victory over Chippenham thanks to a late goal from Alan O’Brien.

Jack Murray scored in the 76th minute as Newbury defeated Highmoor Ibis Reserves 1-0 in the Thames Valley League Premier Division.
