IT was a frustrating weekend for the Berkshire senior women's team due to the wet weather, writes Dave Wright.

Their County Championship match against Division 1 leaders Kent at North Maidenhead CC on Monday was rained off without a ball being bowled.

On Sunday they had got through 25 overs in their away game with Warwickshire before play had to be abandoned with the hosts on 109-1. Neither fixture is likely to re-arranged.

Berkshire under-13 and under-11 girls enjoyed success at the Malvern Cricket Festival held at the Downs School in Colwall.

The Under 13s took part in a T20 competition. They posted 186-4 against Essex with Rhiana Heer making 57 and Freya Johnson 37 before Mia Rogers reached 50 with a four off the last ball. Then a good team effort restricted Essex to 98-3.

Berkshire also defeated Oxon with Ella Phillips making 31 in a total of 110, with their opponents managing only 78-8 in reply.

But they lost a close game with Northants. Berkshire made 129-1 with Mia Rogers (54no) and Freya Johnson (34) featuring in a stand of 76. Northants reached their target for the loss of three wickets with an over to spare.

The final day of the festival consisted of a T8 tournament with Berkshire winning all of their games.

They made 63-2 (Poppy James 20) before limiting Cambridgeshire to 55-5 (Layla Judge 2-8)

Poppy also top scored with 22 in a low-scoring game with Berks needing only 23 to beat Oxfordshire.

Berks made 51 to beat Essex with the Phillips twins, Ella and Charley, making 19 and 11 respectively.

Their final game against Northamptonshire saw Berkshire reach the required 60 runs in the last over thanks largely to a stand of 48 between Lucy Day and Mia Rogers, who finished on 40 not out.

The Berkshire under-11s played T20 games with Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Huntingdonshire.

Isobel Carson top scored with 32 as Berkshire made 115-6 before limiting Oxon to 77-9 with Isoben taking 3-3 in her single over.

Bucks set Berkshire 97 to win but they could only manage 59-6 with Eliza Stone top scoring on 19.

Captain Nicola Lee's fine knock of 56 enabled Berkshire to reach 124-4 with Huntingdon making 75-5 in reply, Lottie Gudge taking 2-10.

The final day consisted of a T8 tournament and it got off to an exciting start with the game against Bucks ending in a tie with both sides making 45-3. Nicola Lee was the pick of the Berks bowlers with 2-11, while Lee then went on to make 12 and Isobel Carson 14 not out.

Berks (Evans 16no) set Hunts 40 to win, but they fell five runs short after good bowling by Lottie and Nicola.

Berks set Oxon 40 to win and lost in the seventh. Isobel made 12 before taking 2-5.
