BURNHAM FC suffered a second-half collapse as they crashed to a 3-1 home defeat to Wimborne Town in the Southern League South & West Division One on Saturday.

The Blues had to substitute striker Kane Jones early on, but they had the better of the opening 45 minutes and deservedly took the lead before the break, Dominic Rhone finding the net with a delicious 25-yard free-kick.

Burnham suffered another setback as they were forced into replacing youngster Hayden Clack with Shaun Downes, and the visiting Magpies started the second half brightly.

The away side pushed Burnham back for long periods and they were rewarded with three goals in a nine-minute spell.

On 63 minutes a fine finish from Mark Gamble levelled the scores and although Burnham had a couple of half chances to go back in front, they were hit with a double-blow which ultimately decided the game.

Ian Oliver finished off a great move to give Wimborne the lead and Gamble then netted for the second time to put his side in command.

And although, Burnham pushed and pushed, Wimborne stood firm and fully deserved the three points.

Burnham will hope to bounce back to winning ways when they visit Hook Norton in the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday (3pm), before welcoming Marlow to The Gore in the league on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).

Maidenhead United earned a 1-1 draw against Sutton United in their National League South clash at York Road.

The hosts took the lead in the ninth minute with a well worked move as Harry Pritchard unselfishly squared the ball from the left and David Tarpey fired home from 20 yards.

Sutton then steadily increased the pressure in their push for an equaliser, which came just on the stroke of half time.

Dan Wishart fired a cross from the left onto the head of Craig Dundas whose effort was well saved by Carl Pentney, but the Sutton player was first to the ball to equalise from close range.

After the break Maidenhead gradually increased their influence on the game, despite kicking up the slope.

With 20 minutes left, man-of-the-match Ryan Upward fed Tarpey from the right, only for his shot to be well saved low down by the goalkeeper.

Maidenhead created a number of opportunities to snatch a winner from set-pieces, and had a good shout for a penalty turned down when Dean Inman was pushed over in the box, finishing the game on top.

Sutton held out though to ensure both sides would receive a point apiece for their labours on a swelteringly hot afternoon.

Maidenhead face a busy weekend, travelling to high-flying Hemel Hempstead on Saturday (3pm), before hosting Hayes & Yeading on Monday (3pm).
