After pushing Milton United close in the FA CUP, Port returned to winning ways and made it two consecutive wins in a row on the road with a 4-1 victory over Reading Town. With the home side having a difficult start to the season, Port saw this game as a must win fixture and went about their business with purpose from the first whistle.

Ports positive approach to the game was evident as they took the lead in the opening 30 seconds, with the in-form Ryan Tye getting on the score sheet again, following some pressing work from Sam Whitfield who won the ball back and played in Dale Wright who’s cross caused chaos in the 6 yard box, with Tye eventually bundling the ball in to give the visitors the lead.

Following the goal the game evened out, as Reading also looked dangerous down the wings and a speculative shot almost caught keeper Leo Smith off guard, as he palmed the ball upwards which then hit the cross bar and fell to safety.

Port then doubled their lead, as a delightful cross from Wright was met in the box by Tye who scored his second of the game with a glancing header to the far post.

Seemingly in control of the game, Reading then pulled a goal back, as a failed clearance by Ben Stock fell to a Reading player who immediately sent a dangerous cross to the far post, where the Town player had beaten the offside and sent a stunning header off the post and in. Port then thought Reading should have been reduced to 10 men following a kick out from the Reading Town Number 10 on Paul Rake, but the former escaped with a yellow.

There were further chances for both teams in the first half, with a scramble in the Port box being eventually cleared by the resolute Port defence and Wright saw one effort hit the cross bar and also went close with a diving header from a Ryan Tye cross.

The second half started at a slower pace as players were starting to feel the effects of the 30 degree sun beating down on the pitch and it was a pretty even game with both sides knowing that the next goal would be crucial.

On 51 minutes it was Dale Wright who restored the two goal cushion for Port, following a good team move which saw the ball played out to Tye by Adam Wyatt and the former then cut the ball back to the edge of the box and Wright produced a clinical finish through the Reading Town defenders legs into the bottom corner.

With the heat taking its toll, Port then made two changes, with Ben Wall and Daniel Sharp both making their first appearances this season, with Tom Attrell and Alert Marques the men to make way for them.

The game was then wrapped up by Paul Rake who deservedly got himself a goal after another excellent display up front. As Port had done all game it was the relentless pressure that had caused the Reading defender to hesitate on the ball and Rake stole possession back and slotted past the keeper to seal the points for the visitors.
