THE FOOTBALL Association are investigating an incident involving Reading FC’s Nick Blackman during Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup win at Portsmouth.

Blackman, 25, was the target of abuse from a section of the home crowd during the first half at Fratton Park.

He informed the referee, who then stopped the game to alert two safety officers to what had been said.

It has now been confirmed that Reading and Portsmouth will be contacted by the FA to ask for their observations about what took place.

The exact nature of the abuse is yet to be revealed and Royals opted against making an official statement after the game.

Blackman went on to score the equaliser for Reading in a 2-1 win and Kevin Keen praised his response.

Royals’ assistant boss said: “For that to happen to Nick and for him to come through and respond in the right manner by scoring a goal that puts us on the way to a good win, shows you what sort a person he is. So massive credit to him for that.”
