READING Rockets have announced the signings of American pair D’Montre Edwards and Antonio Robinson for the 2015/2016 season.

The duo have both put pen to paper on a one-year-deal and are due to arrive in the UK in the next few weeks.

They follow in the footsteps of captain Danny Carter who signed a one year extension last week.
Robinson joins the Rivermead outfit to take up the lead guard position vacated by the outgoing Sergi Guardia.

The 22 year old, 6ft 4in point guard has just completed two years at NCAA Division One college East Carolina University where he averaged 18 points, 11 assists, nine rebounds, and four steals and prior to that was an ‘All-American’ at Louisburg Junior College.

Having just completed a pre-draft workout with the Charlotte Hornets, Robinson is excited to get going at his new club and is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

He said: “I am glad to be accepted at the club and I want to thank everyone that was involved in making this choice to pick me.

“I have been working out twice a day on the little things I need to make my game go upwards and in preparation for the season ahead.

“Being a part of this club is great and I will bring a lot of leadership and my effort will be out of this world. I can’t wait to be wearing a Rockets uniform.”

Edwards also joins up with the Reading team in the small forward position.

The 23 year old, 6ft 6in American has also just finished his time in the USA having just completed a year in the Premier Basketball League (PBL) averaging 14 points and six rebounds after having two years at NCAA Division One college Tennessee.

Prior to that, Edwards attended junior college at Brevard Community College averaging 15 points and seven rebounds as well as gaining a place on the first team all-southern conference.

He said: “I am really grateful to be given this opportunity to play for such a great English club and I just can’t wait to come over and get started.

“I want to thank everyone for allowing me to come and play the sport I love and to give my all to this team over the coming year.”

In speaking of his delight in capturing two quality American players, Rockets chairman Gary Johnson commented: “I am really pleased to be able to announce the signings of Tony and D’Montre to the Rockets.

Both players are of an excellent calibre and we are very happy to be able to have them playing for us next season. In Tony, we have a big, quality point guard who plays the game at a very high level, and D’Montre will give us a lot of fire power from the perimeter and some much needed athleticism as this is something we were lacking last season.”

He continued: “Both players seem like great guys and really hungry to get going and really fit with what we want from this season so I am obviously delighted to be able to have them both in place early on prior to this season.

“I am looking forward to seeing them in action and I don’t think Rockets fans will be too disappointed.”
