EVERSLEY Cricket Club finally beat the Lashings World XI at the 10th time of asking with a sensational 39-run win in a Ten10 clash on Thursday.

A huge crowd descended on Cross Green to watch an array of international stars representing the visitors, with the side led by former England all-rounder Phil Defreitas.

West Indian paceman Tino Best opened the bowling but was twice cut for 6 over the slips by Steve Jordan (43), and with Devon Malcolm also going round the ground, Eversley scorched to 36-0 after two overs.

There was no let-up for the Lashings bowlers as Zimbabwean star Tino Mutombodzi (47no) entered proceedings, smashing one huge six through the back windscreen of a Porsche parked at deep mid wicket.

Mark Ealham (2-28) claimed a couple of late wickets, but Eversley reached a highly competitive 116-4 in their 10 overs.

Boars captain Scott Dyer swiftly removed Barbados star Kirk Edwards in reply, and with Jack Sever (1-2) bowling with express pace, ex-England man Owais Shah had his off stump uprooted at the end of an outstanding two overs.

Things failed to get much better for Lashings, with only Best (34) making any significant contribution as they closed on a disappointing 77-8. There were further wickets for Joe Tucker, Chris Last, Shane Green, Lewis Sharp and Mutombodzi.

Earlier Lashings won the first game – a 15 overs per side affair – by 41 runs, prompting the decision to play the second innings as a separate match.

Opener Shah again had trouble against the hostile Sever (0-8 off three overs), but Edwards hammered the first ball he faced for a massive straight 6 en route to 54.

Shah (66) gradually started to flourish against the slower bowlers, while Yasir Arafat blasted a useful 39 to help his side to 166-4 as Mutombodzi (2-7) ended as the pick of the Boars attack.

The Eversley innings began disastrously as Best bowled with great pace to claim two wickets along with a stunning direct hit run out.

However, from 17-4, Shane Green (64no) and Jordan (24) put on a fine unbroken stand of 108, with the former looking in particularly good touch as he smashed Shah for a couple of maximums, but they ultimately fell short on 125-4.

Thames Valley League Round-up EVERSLEY’S up-and-down Thames Valley League Division One season continued on Saturday as they were only able to draw at Kew.

Jack Sever was the pick of the Boars attack in taking a superb 5-51, but the home side – who have struggled this year despite winning the league in 2014 – were able to post a competitive 250-9.

In reply, second-bottom Eversley reached 231-8, but a frustrating day for the Cross Green side saw them also deducted a point for a slow over rate.

Eversley are at home to Marlow this coming Saturday (1pm).

Run machine Ben Saville scored another fabulous hundred as table-topping Eversley 2nds continued their bid for the Division 4b title with a 33-run win at home to fellow high-flyers Theale & Tilehurst.

The opener made a majestic 103 and Mike Judd also scored a brilliant 102 as the Boars totalled 259-8, and off spinner Chris Last then toiled away to take 5-61 as T&T were dismissed for 226. Michael Holder top scored for the visitors with 59.

In Division 7a, captain Rob Saunders produced another excellent spell to help Eversley 3rds to a three-wicket win at Wokingham 4ths.

The seamer bowled 23 overs off the reel in claiming figures of 5-68, while Andrew Hogston (2-38) and Stuart Tidbury (2-46) provided good support as the Oaks were bowled out for 156.

Eversley lost Paul Ager cheaply in their reply, but Trevor Edwards and Dave Howorth began the recovery.

The game was in the balance for Eversley when they slipped to 61-4 and later 134-7, but Edwards (63no) held his nerve to steer them to a useful victory.

Eversley 4ths found the going tougher at home to Theale & Tilehurst 3rds in Division 8a, eventually falling to a 43-run reverse.

Tony Critchley (2-37) bowled well for the Boars, but the star of the show was Under 15 Ben Martin (5-55), who took his maiden senior five-wicket haul as T&T were bowled out for 204.

The Boars endured a catastrophic start as they crashed to 7-3 in the face of some fine bowling from Mark Mason and Matthew Hearn-Philips.

Richard Ford (43) helped steady proceedings before an outstanding display of hard-hitting by Jimmy Forsyth – whose 68 included seven 6s – put Eversley in with a shout.

However, his departure on 128 was followed by Ford’s to make it 149-6, and the tail was blown away as Eversley collapsed to 161 all out.
