But Richardson, who has previously played for the club, is looking forward to rebuilding the team relegated to Division One East of the Hellenic League.

“It is not going to be easy, but it will be a challenge for me and I am hopeful that things will work out well.” Around 20 players have started training and Richardson said there will be more when players return from holiday.

“The team will be mainly youngsters but with a few experienced heads,” he added.

At the moment Town are unable to train at Scours Lane, as work has still to be done on cutting the grass and getting the pitch ready.

“I am hoping that will be done soon,” added Richardson.

He revealed he spoke to elder brother Marcus, a successful manager with Highmoor Ibis, before accepting the Town job.

“He is confident I can do the job,” said Tranell.

Town have friendlies lined up with Highmoor, which will be played at the JMA Academy this Saturday, and away to Mortimer on August 6, and Richardson is hoping to play one or two more.

The Hellenic League fixtures for the opening weeks of the season are expected to be announced in the next few days.

Town will host Holyport in the first round of the Bluefin Sport Hellenic League Cup, while Highmoor Ibis visit Old Woodstock Town.

Town have received a bye in the first round of the Hellenic Floodlit Cup, now sponsored by Perpetua Print. One of the ties of the round will see Highmoor taking on Binfield at Palmer Park Stadium.

Two former Town players, goalkeeper Nathan Silver and defender Danny Horscroft, have joined Binfield.
