I WAS both delighted and intrigued to see David Cliffe's article and copy of John Andrews' and Andrew Dury's 1807 map in Retro ('Mapping the way to town's past', Chronicle, December 17).
I am at the moment working with a group researching the water mills of the River Loddon and so immediately pored over the map hoping to find some reference to two or three mills which are proving difficult to find details of.
The first is where the Loddon runs into the Thames - close by was Wargrave Mill. It is not clear if the mill was powered by the Loddon or the Thames.
Further upstream, 'twixt Sindlesham and Arborfield mills, there was once an Earley mill, now long gone - but where was it?
Lastly, the possibility of another mill upstream of Arborfield Mill in the vicinity of School Green, Shinfield. Millworth Lane gives the clue, but nothing is known.
So while readers are finishing off the leftovers if there are any folks out there who may be able to furnish any information of the foregoing, we would be very appreciative.
