It would appear that on Saturday the Reading Labour Party gave up on holding the Reading West seat at the next General Election with the choice of Naz Sarkar as their parliamentary candidate.

Despite having 19 local councillors to choose from the local Labour party members felt that a "gaffe prone" opportunist from London who has previously tried (unsuccessfully) three times to be a parliamentary candidate, in Walthamstow, Streatham and Wolverhampton, who was so incompetent he was demoted from his position on the cabinet at Waltham Forest Council and whose teaching career seems to follow his parliamentary aspirations, was a better candidate than all the local options?

With the huge mess and national debt the country has accumulated over the past 12 years I will most defiantly be voting Conservative at the next General Election, however I also think it is a sad betrayal of the current crop of Labour councillors in Reading by their Party Central Office.

I am sure this selection will turn out be a disastrous choice for Labour.

Mr Sarkar appears to be solely interested in becoming an MP for what it will mean for him rather than by any great desire to represent the people of Reading.

One has no comment on this particular selection procedure, no doubt local electors will assess the wisdom of it.

Parliament, and Governance at every level has become something of a disappointment, clearly in many cases inadequates are elected to serve electorates. Regrettably too often such persons become anything from Councillor to Member of Parliament despite their perceived inadequacies. However we might do well to remember that such persons are usually selected through incompetent Branch Managements, who in turn hold their positions through the lack of involvement of Party Members.
