Letter: Don"t forget fallen Russian soldiers

THE 65th anniversary of the Normandy Landings has been commemorated with claims that the defeat of Nazi Germany began here.

The fact is, the bulk of Germany"s massive military strength was engaged on the Russian front where 80% of its total wartime losses occurred.

It was Prime Minister Churchill who said: 'The Red Army had broken the back of the Wehrmacht' long before D-Day, and he doubted whether the Normandy landings would otherwise have been possible.

So let us continue to remember D-Day but also remember the millions of Russian soldiers who died for the cause.
