Letter: Puzzled over yellow lines

I was astonished to read the letter (Chronicle, May 28) about painting double yellow lines on Henley Road, east of All Hallows road.
I have lived at this address since October 1987, and had heard nothing at all about this proposal.
If local councillors are indeed claiming to have consulted residents, then I think they may wish to reconsider their claims, as I am a local resident, and I was not consulted by anyone.
The cycle lane on the north side of Henley road has been poorly used since it was first introduced. We usually see more cyclists using the highway than we see on the cycle lane.
There seems little point in wasting further public funds on such an underused facility. The tiny number of penalties which might be raised (assuming a 24 hour, seven days a week, dedicated warden system) would take decades to cover the cost of implementation.
I am puzzled and concerned by the total lack of consultation.
