I AM delighted that the fantastic work done by Sue Bourne during her five years at The Avenue Special School has been recognised. (Chronicle, May 7)
She has been shortlisted for the Council Worker of the Year Award (Leadership category), which is awarded by the Local Government Association. Can I urge your readers to get behind Sue and vote for her to receive this award.
Sue works tirelessly for the 81 pupils who all have very complex special needs. She and her team were classed as "outstanding" by Ofsted last year and, last September, she oversaw the move into the new Avenue School and Centre in Tilehurst.
Sue"s dedication to the children at The Avenue and her hard work, which has seen the school achieve a number of major awards, make her a great leader.
I would urge as many people as possible to vote for Sue - she really deserves it and it would be great recognition for the work which everyone at the Avenue School does.
People can vote by going to the council"s website www.reading.gov.uk and clicking on to the link.
Or they can check out www.localgovernmentchannel.com/awards. You can SMS: text LGATV 7 SueB to 80039 or fill in a voting form at the civic offices.
Cllr Jo Lovelock
