One of the 50 protestors at Reading University on Wednesday

IN the welcome page in the brochure of this year's Short Courses (numbering over 200) at Reading University: the Vice-Chancellor states with pride that thousands of people have enjoyed and benefited from the courses, over a period of 30 years, and that he is looking forward to seeing us on them "for many years to come."

Evidently the V-C did not foresee that because of withdrawal of government funding for its public courses, the University would have to announce an end to them all, after this term (Chronicle, March 19 & April 2). So I write in support of Paul Kingston's campaign (letter, April 23) see www.reading-ace.org.uk. And I urge Reading University to liaise with this campaign in every way that it can, so that 30 years of educational enrichment will not suddenly come to an end.
