AN ex-services club has been saved from demolition because the proposed replacement town houses would be built 'like rabbit hutches'.

Planning officers recommended the proposals by S G Investments to flatten the Windsor Ex Services Club, in St Leonard's Road, and build eight three-storey houses for approval, but the Windsor Development Panel cited a loss of parking and lack of space as reasons for refusal.

Councillor Jesse Grey, said at the meeting at The Guildhall, in High Street, Windsor, on Wednesday night: "I can see there is a need for improvement, but it just feels there is too many here. They are almost like rabbit hutches."

Windsor Ex-Services Club opened in 1918 to support veterans and orphans of the First World War, but it closed in June after membership dwindled.
