ORGANISERS of the town's Christmas lights switch on ceremony have made an unusual move after one of the stars pulled out.
The Slough Christmas lights were due to be switched on by X Factor singer Ethan Boroian, who got to the final 24 in this year's competition, and dance troupe Nemisis, who appeared on Britain's Got Talent.
However, the X Factor singer pulled out at the eleventh hour, so the council have decided to pick one lucky member of the public at random to turn on the lights and win £500 of QueensmereObservatory shopping vouchers.
Trevor Lambert, head of communications at Slough Borough Council, said: "Obviously we are disappointed that Ethan can't come to switch the lights on, but instead we are taking the chance to fill his shoes with our very own Slough Christmas star from the crowd. Nemisis will join the lucky winner along with Father Christmas to push the plunger and light up the High Street."
The celebrations, hosted by Asian Star radio station, start from 3.30pm and will see Nemisis perform three slick dance routines.
At the event on Thursday next week there will also be a performance of the Robin Hood pantomime from the West Wing and dancers from Slough's Creative Academy.
Slough Mayor Joginder Bal said: "I can't wait to meet our very own Slough star to help me switch on the lights. This annual event attracts thousands of people and with Nemisis on board and a fabulous festive prize to be won I hope this year will be no exception."
The free event is organised by Slough Borough Council and the QueensmereObservatory Shopping Centre.
The lights will be switched on at 6pm and there will be a firework display afterwards.
