HEADTEACHER at Upton Court Grammar School in Lascelles Road, Slough Mark Pritchard had two pieces of great news yesterday (Thursday).

He said: "We are the second best performing grammar school in the country and top mixed grammar school."

The second lot of good news came in the form of excellent A level results.

He said: "We have two going to Oxford and Cambridge, three are going into medicine, one to Imperial College, one to Kings."

Among the happy students was Sylvia Muthukkumaru earned an A* grade for Maths and three A grades for biology, chemistry and expended project qualification.

She is going to Kings College to study medicine.

She has a particular interest in surgery but admits to having quite a battle to keep up with the latest reports as major advances are made all the time.

Sulaiman Iqbal came from Southall to attend the school and earned an A* for his extended project qualification and As for history and maths.

He is going to study history at Cambridge.

Sulaiman has a keen interest in overseas development and would like to do humanitarian work when he has finished his education

Maryam Zamir has still to make her mind up whether she wants to be a doctor or an engineer.

There is plenty of time to make up her mind.

She is off to University College London to study law after gaining an A* and two A grades in chemistry, biology and maths.

Lauren Freeland is going to do an apprenticeship in finance having gained an A in psychology and Bs in maths and chemistry.

She has chosen a practical way of spending her gap year first though - working at the Daniel store in Windsor getting practical experience.
