CARERS WEEK has concluded, which saw over a hundred carers and volunteers attend celebration thanking them for their work.

On June 11, Slough Carers Support held their ‘Unsung Heroes Celebration’ in the Masonic Centre, Slough. Opening the event, Marcia Wright, chairwoman of the Slough 50+ Forum, read the Carers Prayer, which was written by Heather Smith of Carers UK.

The audience was then shown to a carer themed photography workshop by Jordan from The Arts Excite, heard a poetry recital from Creative Junction, heard music from Irish Frank and an took part in a Bhangra dance workshop from Apna Virsa.

Ramesh Kukar, CEO of the Slough Council for Voluntary Service , used the event to launch their #Reach Out campaign, designed to tackle social isolation in Slough. Mr Kukar said: “Being isolated is not the same as being lonely — if you’re not talking to your neighbour, if you’re not talking to the people around you, that can make you feel isolated.”
