BE prepared to get wet if you're heading out today. After snow on Sunday, Berkshire has woken up to widespread frost, sleet, rain and snow in some places

The Met Office issued a warning for today, in place from 4am. It says that injuries may be possible due to severe ice.

And the gritters are out again as temperatures won't get higher than two degrees and are expected to plummet again tonight, leaving to tricky conditions for Tuesday. 

Local councils are salt spreading on the primary and secondary routes, but still advise drivers to be cautious.

A Reading Borough statement reads: 'A mixture of rain, sleet and snow, along with strong winds in #rdguk today. Temperatures are unlikely to rise above 2° and predicted to fall sharply overnight. The gritting lorries will be out tonight from 6pm covering primary and secondary routes.'

Children Edge School, attended by hundreds of Reading children, is closed today.

Henley College is also closed as is Hermitage Primary School.

Lynch Hill Primary and Secondary academies in Slough will also be closed.

Many residents awoke on Sunday to find gardens and roads completely covered – and the wintery showers aren’t showing any signs of stopping yet.

The worst of the weather has hit the Midlands and the West, but Berkshire and neighbouring Buckinghamshire have been hit, with many roads in Bucks impassable.

A Met Office weather warning remained in place across the day with some forecasters predicting it won’t stop until past midnight in some places.

There was heavy disruption on the roads and rail. Train services have been cancelled or delayed and customers are asked to check before they travel.

Parts of the M40 were closed, with motorists seen abandoning their cars and walking on the motorway. The M40 and the A34 is being ploughed in both directions but Thames Valley Police are urging people not to drive unless 'vital'. There are also severe delays on the M25.

A coach got stuck on the A404 at Handy Cross, causing major delays for drivers trying to get onto the M40. Then a lorry jack-knifed, adding to delays. 

Meanwhile thousands of passengers waiting for flights at Heathrow have been stuck at the airport for hours after snow ground planes.

The Midlands has been badly hit once again today, with hundreds of schools closed and people told not to travel unless absolutely necessary.

A yellow weather warning is in place for the South today due to stormy conditions which could bring gusts of up to 70mph. Storm Ana is expected to hit in the early hours and cause problems, along with freezing temperatures which will cause severe ice.

The annual Toy Run in Reading was cancelled on Sunday due to the bad weather. Organisers said they are sorry but 'safety comes first'.
