THAMES Valley Police (TVP) has referred itself to the watchdog after a pursuit of a vehicle ended in a crash near the M4 early this morning.

Officers were pursuing a car, believed to have been stolen, at around 12.30am today (Sunday). The fleeing vehicle was then in collision with another stationary TVP vehicle at the junction of the A355 and Junction 6 of the M4 for Slough and Windsor. It is understood the collision took place on the Windsor side.

A force statement said a man in the vehicle suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital. Two women who were also in the car were not injured.

The driver of the car, a man, was arrested in connection with the incident and is in police custody.

No police officers were injured and the force has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) as a result.

The status of the injured man is yet to be confirmed.

It is understood that the area was closed off as emergency services attended the scene.
