A veteran engineer and sportsman who brought his naval training to bear during many years working as a maintenance engineer for ICI in Slough has died aged 88.
Pete Carrod, of Vine Road, Stoke Poges grew up in Langley where he went to school.
He had learned dedication early on while still at school, feeding his father's 100 pigs every day before setting off to classes.
He started his career aged 14 at Douglas Engineering in Datchet.
But it was during his time in the navy that he honed and widened his skills, working as an airframe mechanic ensuring aircraft were air worthy before serving on an aircraft carrier in the dangerous days of the Korean War.
His time on HMS Triumph saw him travel to Malta, the Suez Canal, Red Sea, Ceylon, Singapore and finally Hong Kong to collect the first British troops to take to Korea.
In 1951 he met his future wife Jean at a dance in Burton’s, Uxbridge while on leave. They finally married in September, 1957 at Wexham Church, Church Road.
Mr Carrod's first job after the navy was as a machine repair fitter at Ford Motor Company, Langley. He played football for their team and became a celebrated trophy winner.
He moved to Stoke Poges with his wife Jean and daughter Ruth in 1965.
During his long career at ICI he developed an appreciation of bowls - playing for the company for 23 years and winning the county championship one year.

He joined Stoke Poges Bowls Club in 2004. It was at Stoke Poges that he notched up 17 trophies in seven years.

His daughter Ruth said: "He loved his garden and spent hours there growing vegetables and fruit.
"He also loved bird-watching and was frequently filling up all his bird feeders to keep up with the demand.
"Although he started to suffer with his health recently, he always remained cheerful and optimistic with a zest for life."
Mr Carrod was predeceased by his wife Jean and leaves his daughter Ruth and sister Peggy.
The funeral is at Slough Crematorium at 11.30am on Wednesday, August 16 followed by a reception at Wexham Park Golf Centre in Wexham Street.
