BRITISH weather has been known to delay numerous building projects - but it is usually winter conditions that do the damage.

This week Robin Hughes, the man behind the new Castle View retirement village being built in Helston Lane, Windsor revealed that it was the heat wave currently forcing the men to down tools.

He said: “You can’t pour concrete in temperatures of more than 30 degrees and it has reached 34 degrees this week.”

The 50 or so guests invited onto the roof of the new block by Mr Hughes on Monday braved the heat in return for a panoramic view of Windsor. They included Royal Borough leader Cllr Simon Dudley and pupils from Windsor Boys and Girls School, including one girl who plans to be an architect.
