Slough town centre came to life on Saturday as creative artists staged an event of colour, comedy, dance and music.

The Streets Alive festival saw dancing bodyguards provide shoppers with VIP treatment, including Mayor Ishrat Shah in Town Square.

Meanwhile samba rhythms and jazz performers decorated the High Street while comedy road workers gave a circus display in Mackenzie Square. There were even Parkour performers in Curve Plaza and a host of family activities in The Curve where Cbeebies star, Nisha Anil, did a storytime for kids.

The event was organised by Home Slough, the creative arts charity funded by Arts Council England. It is part of a wider project to help address low levels of involvement in arts and culture across the UK.

Deputy leader of Slough Borough Council, Cllr Sabia Hussain, told the crowds: "As we all know Slough is changing. Home Slough is excited about the role arts and culture can play in reflecting and shaping this change.

"They want to bring new arts experiences to Slough audiences and Streets Alive, Slough is part of this.

"The arts have a great role to play in the town centre's future as a thriving hub for shopping, business and leisure."

The final act at 3.15pm saw colour riot group, Les Vernisseurs, transform the town centre with colourful confetti and comedy, in many cases getting shoppers and standers by involved. They had come all the way from France for the event.

Home Slough thanked youth charity, Aik Saath, Slough Youth Parliament the council and the Town Centre Parnership for helping the event to go ahead.
