A TROUBLED man with a history of mental health problems repeatedly stabbed one of his only friends to death before slashing his own throat on his mother’s doorstep, an inquest heard.

David Yokota, 39, was living with Dennis Kelly on Lewins Way after his bail conditions required him to stay away from his mother’s house in Robin Hood Close.

However, Kelly said he was no longer prepared to have him staying at his home and demanded rent.

Thames Valley Police received reports of a man with stab wounds shortly after 5.30pm on February 10.

They found a large knife next to Yokota’s body and he was taken to Wexham Park Hospital under police supervision.

Yokota, who suffered from a split personality disorder, was found lying unconscious in the gutter near his family home after banging on the door and shouting at his sister, who he was accused of assaulting.

He died two days later due to self inflicted ‘slash wound’ injuries to his wrist and neck.

Investigating officers later forced entry to Kelly’s home and found the 59-year-old man lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of his own blood, with multiple stab wounds to his chest and the back of his head.

Forensic examination found traces of Yokota’s DNA in the kitchen, lounge and dining room.

Police confirmed the eight-inch kitchen knife used to kill Kelly was the same one found next to Yokota.

Yokota’s mother Jackie said the two men had only recently been friends.

She said her son suffered a brutal assault 20 years ago in Thailand, which left with him permanent damage to his skull and a split personality.

Emma Jones, assistant coroner for Berkshire, concluded Yokota committed suicide, while his friend was unlawfully killed at the inquest at Reading Town Hall yesterday (Thursday).
