A woman in her 50s has died at her home despite attempts by firefighters to resuscitate her.

Two crews from Slough Fire Station went to Littledown Road, Slough at 9.46pm on Wednesday evening after receiving reports of a fire in the kitchen of a house.

They arrived within five minutes to find the fire already put out.

But a woman in the house was unconscious and they were unable to resuscitate her.

Police and an ambulance crew also attended the scene as the firefighters checked to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

The Royal Berkshire Fire Rescue service fire investigations officer is currently working with counterparts from Thames Valley Police to investigate the cause of the fire.

Following the tragic incident the fire service is repeating its usual recommendations that everybody should have working smoke alarms in their properties and an effective escape plan in the event of a fire.
