It is exactly a week since the General Election in Slough.

Labour had threatened to almost triple their share of the vote over the Tories as Tan Dhesi became Slough's MP with a clear victory.

Mr Dhesi took 34, 170 votes to Conservative Mark Vivis' 17, 172, making him the first Sikh MP in Parliament to don a turban.

Some had thought Mr Dhesi, 38, was on unsteady ground after the resignation of Fiona Mactaggart MP who had last been elected with a 7,000 plus majority. The Tories aimed to close the gap but it did not happen.

UKIP saw their vote reduced drastically from 2015 as candidate Karen Perez came fourth with 1,228 votes - while the Lib Dems were in third as candidate Tom McCann polled 1,308. Independent Paul Janik took 417. The tunout was 65.4 per cent up on 2015 which was 55.9 per cent.
