SLOUGH MP Fiona Mactaggart says she will not 'give up and go under the duvet' after announcing she would stand down at the next general election.
Labour member of Parliament Miss Mactaggart, who lives in the town centre, shocked constituents last Thursday by announcing she would not be standing for another term on June 8.
But she said she would continue to work on issues close to her heart following her departure - including the problem of human trafficking.
Miss Mactaggart told the Observer: "I will still find ways to work on issues I care about.
"The Human Trafficking issue - I am currently planning a piece of work with the Human Trafficking Foundation for children at risk in Calais, France. This isn't a pianist giving up and going under the duvet - this is Fiona moving on and giving someone else the chance to represent Slough."
Last week Miss Mactaggart admitted in a statement to colleagues that she no longer had the passion she once had for the job and she had 'been bored by political squabbles over personalities'.
But she insisted Slough was in a better bill of health than when she was elected to the seat in 1997 - the same year Theresa May was elected in Windsor and Maidenhead.
Slough's Labour party is yet to announce who the new candidate will be to stand in Miss Mactaggart's place. It is understood a date of May 11 will be the deadline.
