A SHOP worker was hit round the head and forced to open a till by masked robbers in a terrifying daylight attack in Whitley.

Three men dressed in black burst into CK Food and Wine, in Northumberland Avenue, at about 4.30pm last Thursday and two of the gang hit the shop worker with hard objects in a sock.

The employee was then made to open the till and cash was stolen before the gang left the shop and drove off.

The victim suffered cuts to his head and elbow which required stitches and police are appealing for witnesses to the attack.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Mandy Brownlie, from Reading Force CID, said: “I am appealing for anyone with any information about this incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area to contact police.”
