A DRUG-SMUGGLER has been jailed for almost four years for attempting to bring more than £800,000-worth of cocaine into the UK.

Connie Jane Poku. 42, of Middle Walk in Burnham was arrested by Border Force officers at Heathrow's Terminal 5 on Tuesday, May 22 after a number of tape wrapped packages, which in total weighed almost six kilos, were found in her hand baggage.

Tests carried out on the substance inside revealed it to be 90% pure cocaine with a street value of more than £830,000.

Poku, who had travelled on a flight from Accra in Ghana, pleaded guilty to attempting to import a class A drug and was sentenced to 45 months in prison by a judge at Isleworth Crown Court on Thursday (2).

Senior investigating officer Siobhan Micklethwaite, of Border Force, said: "This was a significant amount of cocaine which was of a very high purity. Poku's lengthy jail term should serve as a warning to others.

"Working with our law enforcement colleagues in the UK and around the world we are determined to do all we can to prevent class A drugs reaching our streets and harming our communities."
