Arrests at Royal Ascot on Ladies' Day

FOUR arrests were made yesterday (Thursday) on the third day of Royal Ascot when 60,294 people attended.
Three men were arrested on suspicion of possessing or controlling an article for use in fraud (counterfeit currency) and all remain in custody.
A 23-year-old woman was arrested and cautioned after pepper spray was found in her bag. Police say there was no suggestion that she attempted to use the spray.
British Transport Police did not make any arrests yesterday, but arrested two men on Wednesday - one aged 47, from Wimbledon, and the other aged 45, from Hertfordshire - on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and issued them with an £80 fixed penalty notice for public order.
This brings the total number of arrests to 10.
Attendance was down from 70,510 last year on Ladies' Day, but this is in line with expectations as the capacity in the Granstand has been reduced by 2,000 and the wet weather meant fewer tickets were sold for the Silver Ring and Heath.
Charles Barnett, chief executive of Ascot Racecourse, said: "We have concentrated on customer comfort in the Grandstand this year and reduced the capacity by 2,000 each day. Our new Furlong Club has also effectively taken another 2000 people out of the main Grandstand.
"We're pleased with the numbers this week, especially the increase on our opening day crowd and hospitality which is up 10% on last year. We are sold out in all the main enclosures on Saturday, with only admission for the Heath available on the day."
