Hospice midnight walk cancelled
DISAPPOINTED fundraisers have been forced to pull a major event raising vital cash for a hospice due to a lack of interest.
The Thames Hospicecare Midnight Walk due to take place on Saturday, June 30, was cancelled this week after only 150 walkers signed up.
Last year more than 450 supporters walked out in their pyjamas raising nearly £70,000 for the charity and this year event organisers were hoping to celebrate the hospice's 25th anniversary with even more walkers.
Sue Lindsey, fundraising & marketing director at Thames Hospicecare, said: "Unfortunately, the Midnight Walk has not generated the interest we had hoped for and regretfully we have had to take the decision to cancel the event. Everybody that has registered to take part is being contacted and offered alternative events or arrangements."
The hospice, which has to raise £4m yearly to provide palliative care for adults with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, is calling on people to join other events being held throughout the year.
