A large sum of cash was stolen in a strongbox in the incident, on Thursday last week, just after 9pm.
Burnham CID Det Con Gareth Nicholson said: "Both guards were unhurt but were left shaken by the incident.
"We believe that the offenders had a gun and that they locked the guards in the bank before leaving the area.
"I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and witnessed anyone acting suspiciously either before or immediately after the incident."
A G4S spokesperson said initial reports indicated that there were two attackers armed with a shotgun and handgun.
She added: "Thankfully neither of our employees sustained injuries as a result of the attack and they and our regional management team are currently assisting police with their investigations.
"The safety and welfare of our staff is integral to G4S and we continue to work closely with national and regional police forces, stakeholders and industry associations to explore ways to combat cash-in-transit crime.
"As this is part of an active police investigation we are unable to provide any further detail on the incident."
