A GLITZY awards bash at the home of football is in striking distance after a community club scored a prestigious 'best in region' award.
Delaford Colts, based at the Recreation Ground in Iver High Street, has netted the 2012 Charter Standard Development Club of the Year award.
The club, which has 120 children on its books, will pick up the trophy at a Berks and Bucks Football Association presentation evening in Didcot, Oxfordshire, on Wednesday. (13)
The club will then go on to contest victory in the regional awards, which could lead to a date at Wembley for the national presentation.
Steve Lewis, Delaford Colts development officer, said: "It's great to be recognised for all the hard work that has gone into the club, on the pitch, and behind the scenes."
The club is set to unveil a new pavilion, at the Recreation Ground, on July 12. The £464,143 development has been supported by a £115,636 grant from the Football Foundation.
The Wexham and Iver Local Area Forum (LAF) also donated £4,560.
Delaford Colts chairman, Keith Mounteney, added: "Over the years we've put a lot of effort into making football accessible to all our young people and I'm very grateful to the LAF for the tremendous support they've given."
The 32-year-old club beat off 23 other entries for the award - which recognises high standards. It was runner-up in last year's competition.
Jon Wood, Berks and Bucks FA football development officer, said: "It is a pro active club and is a development club in every sense of the word.
"It was our most competitive awards ever and the fact Delaford came out on top shows they thoroughly deserve it."
Delaford has been entered into the South East awards. The results will be announced in July.
