Pub gutted in blaze
A BLAZE has gutted half of a pub when it took hold in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).
Fire crews are still at the Tally Ho pub in Eversley near Finchampstead after arriving at 4am to find flames ripping through the roof.
About 50% of the roof and top floor of the pub in Fleet Hill have been destroyed and crews from Wokingham, Reading, Yateley and Hartley Wintney rushed to the scene. An aerial ladder from Reading was used to tackle the flames.
A spokeswoman for Royal Berkshire Fire And Rescue Service said: "It was well alight in the roof when crews got there. The flames were out by 5.30am and they have been damping down since then.
"Three pumps are staying there today and will continue checking for hot spots and cutting away burned timber to make the building as safe as they can."
It is not known how the fire started but a fire investigation officer is due on the scene later today to search for a cause.
