Royals kick off hospice auction
THE OBSERVER is teaming up with Reading Football Club to host an online auction with an array of unique lots - to raise cash for the Duchess of Kent House Charity (DOKHC).
The auction, which hit computer desks on Friday, features a bounty of exclusive items, all available to the highest bidders.
Reading FC marketing director, Emma Pierce, said: "We are delighted to be supporting the Duchess of Kent House Charity as our Official Football League charity this season.
"The online auction in partnership with Berkshire Media Group is one of a number of different ways in which the Royals are supporting the Duchess of Kent House this season. We also have a team running the Reading Half Marathon, and the charity will be fundraising at our match against Leicester City on Saturday, March 10. We would like to thank all the donors for providing the items for the auction, and we hope to raise a lot of money for this excellent cause."
Lots up for grabs include a signed Reading FC shirt; an opportunity for a meet and greet with Reading's official football mascot Kingsley; an executive box at Madejski Stadium for the Leeds United clash on Saturday, April 7; a three-course meal for four at Barts Grill and Restaurant in Wokingham Road; and a plush Fortnum and Mason hamper.
George Solly, director of fundraising at the DOKHC, hailing the "innovative and exciting" idea, said: "We would like to thank all those that have donated these fantastic prizes and wish good luck to all bidders in this win-win contest!"
The hospice marks its 20th anniversary this year and the auction is the first of a number of celebration events. Other celebrations include a charity ball, a Zumbathon and a fashion show.
