Event for carers a success

PARENTS and carers of children and young people with special needs were able to pick up lots of handy information on services under one roof.

Volunteer organisation Special Voices organised the drop in information morning at The Centre in Farnham Road, Slough on Thursday last week where information was available from different groups including Crossroads, Pravaaz, Adult Services and Destiny Support.

Those attending were also able to get advice on direct payments, personalisation, education statements, speech and language, Surestart and parent partnership.

Shari Driver, secretary of Special Voices, said: "It went really well, we had over 60 parents turn up. A lot of parents got some good information. There are services out there and parents are not having that information, that is the gap we are trying to bridge. It is support for them which empowers them."

The group will also host a coffee morning at the Friends Meeting House in Ragstone Road, Chalvey on Friday, March 26 from 10am until noon.

For more information, call 07990 693439, email specialvoices@hotmail.com or join the Special Voices group on Facebook.
