Dozens of speeding drivers were caught out as police carried out routine checks in Windsor and Maidenhead.

A total of 51 drivers were caught speeding in the three checks in Ray Mead Road, Sheephouse Road and Imperial Road on Friday.

All roads checked were subject to a 30mph limit and the speed of drivers stopped ranged from 35mph to 52mph.

The checks were arranged in response to concerns voiced by residents.

Road safety constable from the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership, PC Bob Wade said: "Drivers who continually ignore the speed limit will get caught. I will continue to support neighbourhood officers in dealing with this priority given to them by the residents. Having said that one driver caught admitted to being one of those complaining residents."

Drivers travelling between 35mph and 36mph were given the opportunity to accept roadside education delivered by the roads policing officers and between 37mph and 39mph were issued FPNs, but were given the option of attending a speed awareness course. Those travelling at 40mph and above were issued with fixed penalty notices (FPNs) of £60 and three penalty points and above 50mph were reported to be dealt with by the courts.

During the checks one driver was also issued a £60 FPN for failing to have an MOT certificate and another drivers vehicle was seized, issued a £60 FPN and three points for driving without a valid licence.
