A HAIRDRESSER who swaps high-flicks for high-kicks after work has been praised for his outstanding contribution to the community.
Tae Kwon Do master Stewart Armotrading was honoured by Slough MP Fiona Mactaggart for his commitment to his sport and his work bringing the community together.
Mr Armotrading, who has run a hair salon in St Leonard's Road, Windsor, for the past 10 years took up the martial art when he was 16. The 45-year-old was surprised to receive a call from Ms Mactaggart's office asking him to attend an event at Slough Cricket Club a fortnight ago.
He said: "She started handing out awards and I couldn't believe it when she called out my name and handed me a certificate and congratulated me. I was so shocked.
"I absolutely love what I do. It's so rewarding working with disadvantaged kids, seeing them get back on track and do well is so important."
His skills developed over the years and made him one of Britain's best known fighters. He held many national and international titles. He has been running his own classes - Local Future Ta Kwon Do - at Herschel Grammar School as well as at the Unity Martial Arts Academy for more than 15 years. and has helped to produce 25 British Champions.
The dad-of-two says despite the melting pot of ethnicities in Slough, the sport helps bring people together. The 4th Dan Master added: "We have black, white and Asian members of the class. It's a great sport that everyone can enjoy.
"I have received a lot of awards in the past from within the sport but it's nice to recognised by the wider community. I do the work I do because I want to give something back."
Future Ta Kwon Do regularly takes its younger pupils to trips throughout the UK and any sponsorship would be welcome. For more information visit www.future-
