Firefighters extinguish kitchen blaze

A FATHER and his daughter escaped a kitchen blaze unharmed today.

Firefighters were called to a property in Whitley Wood Road, Whitley, at 1.30pm after a cooker extractor fan caught alight.

It took one crew 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze and a further 40 minutes to cut away part of the kitchen unit.

A fire spokesman said: "Fortunately they had smoke alarms, so they got out nice and quick."
